"Smart Fear”

Fear is a powerful force. We can fear losing our health, our security, our independence, or the people we love. But Scripture introduces us to another kind of fear—the fear of God. In Week 5 of Origin Story, the story of Cain and Abel helps us explore the difference between living consumed by fear and living with a healthy reverence, respect, and awe for God. Cain’s story reminds us that our choices matter and that sin has consequences, but it also reminds us that God is near, calling us to pay attention and trust Him. As we grow to know God through Scripture, prayer, worship, and Christian community, we can learn to depend less on ourselves and more on Him—choosing trust over worry and reverence over fear.
