Current Sermon Series: Narrow Road Rules

Thinking about the life we lead in this world as a journey on a road, has always been a strong and useful image. We use this image to help us understand things, to put things in perspective, and to have hope. We know about roads: multi-lane interstate highways, 2-lane highways, narrow blacktopped roads, gravel roads, dirt roads, paths. And we know that roads allow us to move from point A to point B. Some roads, of course, are easier and smoother than others, but they function the same way.

Life, like roads, can be straight and narrow, smooth, or twisty and rough and hard to travel upon. If you stop and look back on your life–where you have been–you probably can identify times when you have experienced every kind of “road,” or situation, in your life. Now, to look ahead. Jesus gives us a choice. There are two roads we can choose to travel in life. Not three roads or four roads to choose from, two: the wide road that lots of people travel on throughout life, or the narrow road that few travel.
